About Us

In 1970 Fred Mesman and his brother Francis met Bill Owens when they went to the Sedro Woolley Logger Rodeo to play in the horseshoe games. When they were informed the horseshoe games had been cancelled, Bill invited the Mesman brothers to his place in Burlington to pitch shoes on the horseshoe court under his house. About a week later Bill asked the brothers if they would be interested in starting a horseshoe club. The Skagit Valley Horseshoe Club was born. Several courts were built nearby, both indoors and outdoors, and the membership grew quickly.

Today, in cooperation with Burlington Parks and Recreation, Skagit Valley Horseshoe Club has 24 nationally sanctioned courts. They are lighted for those evenings when dusk comes early, and the adjacent covered area allows us to enjoy an occasional potluck. Restrooms, a heated statistics room, and a recently added camper area (for use during tournaments) make our facility among the best in the state.

Our club offers the opportunity for beginners and seasoned players to pitch together, sharing an evening of fellowship and comradery with friends.
